The Milwaukee Art Museum has hosted the Wisconsin awards for 50 years, sharing with the community award-winning art made by teenagers from across the state.

The exhibition features hundreds of artworks juried by regional arts professionals on the merits of originality, skill, and emergence of a personal voice or vision. The jurors select the award-winning pieces from 18 categories: Architecture and Industrial Design, Ceramics and Glass, Comic Art, Conceptual, Installation and Participatory Art, Digital Painting, Drawing and Collage, Drawing,, Editorial Cartoon, Experimental Photography, Fashion, Film and Animation, Graphic Design, Illustration, Jewelry, Mixed Media, Painting, Photography, Printmaking, and Sculpture. Artworks granted a Silver Key receive statewide recognition, and those granted a Gold Key are automatically considered for National Awards.

Founded in 1923, the Scholastic Art Awards is a nationwide program that supports emerging talent in creative teens through exhibitions, publications, and scholarships. Many award winners have gone on to achieve distinction in the arts. Richard Avedon, Robert Indiana, Cy Twombly, and Andy Warhol are among the past awards recipients with works of art in the Museum’s collection.
