Lecture: The Serious Play of Alexander Girard

Thursday, November 29, 2018, 6:15 PM

Hear from Monica Obniski, Demmer Curator of 20th- and 21st-Century Design at this lecture that will explore some of the artistic projects of Alexander Girard, highlighting his playful designs, alongside his use of folk art within these projects.

During the midcentury several architects and designers embraced playfulness and whimsy within their projects, and the most successful ones intertwined work and play. As an architect-designer, Alexander Girard worked across multiple disciplines, and he and his wife were also voracious folk art collectors.

Presented in conjunction with the exhibition Serious Play: Midcentury Design in America.
