Family Sundays/Domingo Familiar: Día de los Muertos

Gather together with family and friends to celebrate the beauty and tradition of Day of the Dead. Explore the meaning behind symbols of the holiday through hands-on art activities and add the name of a loved one who has passed to the community ofrenda. Meet guest artists and learn how their heritage influences their work, enjoy performances, take a tour, and more!

ALL-DAY ACTIVITIES

10 AM–4 PM  Hands-on Art Making | Add to the community ofrenda, embroider Día de los Muertos symbols, and make sugar skull masks, butterfly paintings, and paper flowers.

10 AM–4 PM Student Art Exhibition | See creations by students from Carollton Elementary School in the Kohl’s Art Studio.

11 AM–3 PM Visiting Artists | Meet artists from around the state and learn about how their heritage inspires what they create. Embroider Dia de los Muertos symbols with Andrea Muñiz, and learn about painting from Neto Atkinson. Add to a mural created by Adam Correa, and watch as Gabriela Marván demonstrates how to construct an ofrenda.

11 AM–3 PM Special Guests | CTSI Child Advancement Network (CAN)/Vroom, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Milwaukee, Forest Home Cemetery & Arboretum

Reúnanse con familiares y amigos para celebrar la belleza y tradición del Día de Muertos. Exploren el significado detrás de los símbolos de esta festividad a través de actividades artísticas y agreguen el nombre de un ser querido que haya fallecido a la ofrenda comunitaria. Conozcan a los artistas invitados y aprendan cómo su herencia se ve reflejada en su trabajo. Disfruten además de eventos musicales y otras sorpresas, recorran el museo, ¡y mucho más!

ACTIVIDADES DURANTE TODO EL DÍA

10 AM–4 PM Creaciones artísticas | Agreguen a la ofrenda comunitaria, borden símbolos del Día de los Muertos y creen máscaras de calaveras de azúcar, pinturas de mariposas y flores de papel.

10 AM–4 PM Exhibición de arte estudiantil | Disfruten las creaciones artísticas de estudiantes de la escuela primaria Carollton en el Kohl’s Art Studio.

11 AM–3 PM Conozcan a nuestros artistas invitados | Conozcan a artistas del estado de Wisconsin y aprendan cómo su herencia inspira sus creaciones. Borden símbolos del Día de los Muertos con Andrea Muñiz y aprendan sobre pintura con Neto Atkinson. Agreguen sus objetos a un mural creado por Adam Correa y aprendan de Gabriela Marván cómo construir una ofrenda.
