In this docent-led tour, explore artworks by contemporary artists representing many tribal affiliations, who are reshaping the narratives about American land and identity. Presented near historical Anglo-American paintings, these works offer insight into Native perspectives on stereotypes, beliefs, and themes circulated by 19th-century artists. More importantly, they depict Indigenous art, culture, and traditions in Wisconsin and beyond as they have always been: vibrant, enduring, and thriving.
Featured artworks include Landscape (1986) by celebrated Ojibwe artist George Morrison, a monumental twelve-foot wood collage on a limited-time loan from Art Bridges, and Feather Canoe (ca. 1993) by Ho-Chunk American and Wisconsin-native artist Truman Lowe.
This drop-in experience is included with Museum admission and is free for Members. Admission tickets are available at the door or online.
