Artist Talk: Wisconsin’s Printmaking Heritage, Then and Now

Join us for a dynamic, multigenerational conversation exploring Wisconsin’s rich printmaking history and its continued impact today. Artists working across a range of techniques, experiences, and perspectives come together to reflect on the power of print, sharing insights into their creative practices, professional paths, and technical approaches. The panel will also explore current opportunities for printmakers and consider what lies ahead for the field. Moderated by Jessica Meuninck-Ganger, the panelists will include N. Adam Beadel, Celeste Contreras, Dr. Tanekeya W. Harris, J. Myszka Lewis, Berel Lutsky, and Evelyn Patricia Terry.

The Artist Talk series welcomes emerging, mid-career, and established artists to share what it means to live creatively. Discussing motivation, medium, and technique, artists will reveal how and why their work expresses their emotions and ideas.

This drop-in experience is included with Museum admission. On Thursday nights from 4 to 8 p.m., admission is pay-what-you-wish at the door, while tickets purchased online in advance are full price.

Meet the artists

N. Adam Beadel

N. Adam Beadel is an artist, printmaker, poet, educator, advocate, and curator living in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He has a degree in book arts and political economy from the Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA and a Master of Fine Arts in Printmaking from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He is the owner of Team Nerd Press, a letterpress art studio and designer of show posters, cards, artist books, poetry broadsides and whimsical ephemera. Beadel is the curator of Grove Gallery in Milwaukee’s Walker’s Point neighborhood, where he’s been exhibiting local artists and printmakers for over a decade with his mentor, Celine Farrell. He is a member of the print collective “The Dry Points” whose work is collected by UW-Milwaukee’s Special Collections.

Celeste Contreras Skierski

Celeste Contreras Skierski is a Xicana-Indigenous artist whose interdisciplinary practice explores ceremony, memory, identity, and palimpsests through illustration, printmaking, book arts, fiber arts, and animation. She earned a BFA from Alverno College and an MFA in Print and Narrative Form from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee, where she now lectures. In 2019, she served as Artist-in-Residence with Milwaukee Public Library’s Gathering Art, Stories and Place program, producing the artist’s book edition Artist in the Library. She later served as Community Ambassador for the Milwaukee Women’s Art Library, helping build its archive. Contreras is a board member of Anchor Press, Paper and Print and The CR8TV House, and manages Studio Tlacuilo + Library at House of RAD.

Jessica Meuninck-Ganger

Jessica Meuninck-Ganger creates prints, sculpture, and time-based works exhibited in museums and galleries throughout the United States and internationally. Her work is included in public and private collections including the Weisman Art Museum, Saint Kate Arts Hotel, Jeonbuk Museum of Art, Northwestern Mutual, and Target Corporation. Her work has also appeared in publications including Sustenance: Contemporary Printmaking Now, Printmaking Beyond the Edge, and Interactive Art and Embodiment. Meuninck-Ganger earned a BS in Art Education from Ball State University and an MFA from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. She serves as Area Head of Printmaking and Book Arts, Director of Graduate Studies in Art and Design at UW–Milwaukee, and Acting Director of Anchor Press, Paper and Print.

Dr. Tanekeya W. Harris

Dr. Tanekeya W. Harris is a multimedia artist, writer, and scholar whose work explores Black girlhood, womanhood, imagination, and everyday fantastical experiences through Blues poetics and Mississippi Delta traditions. She earned degrees from Howard University, American University, and the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. Harris founded the printmaking collective Black Women of Print, and her work has appeared in publications including Afrofuturism: A History of Black Futures, Reframing Women Printmakers, Hyperallergic, and PRINT Magazine. Her artwork has been exhibited nationally, including at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and is held in collections including the Whitney Museum, Smithsonian, Milwaukee Art Museum, Getty Research Institute, and Philadelphia Museum of Art.

J Myszka Lewis

J Myszka Lewis works across printmaking, painting, and drawing, creating compositions that use pattern and repetition to examine still life, flowers, and perceptions of time. She earned a BFA from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee and an MFA from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Lewis has presented solo exhibitions throughout the Midwest and participated in group exhibitions at the International Print Center New York, Charles Allis Art Museum, Soap Factory, Museum of Wisconsin Art, Trout Museum of Art, and Chazen Museum of Art. Her work is included in numerous private collections and corporate collections including Bank of Kaukauna, UW Health, and Fidelity Investments. Based in Madison, Wisconsin, she also serves as a curator at Tandem Press.

Berel Lutsky

Berel Lutsky was born in Buffalo, New York, and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He earned a BS in studio art from UW–Madison and an MFA in studio art from UW–Milwaukee, both with concentrations in printmaking. Lutsky has taught at several University of Wisconsin campuses, Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, Carroll University, and the Avni Institute in Israel. His work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and is represented in public and private collections in Israel, Belgium, Japan, and the United States. Professor Emeritus at UW–Green Bay–Manitowoc Campus, he co-founded ReallyBIGPRINTS!!, served as resident printmaker at Studio 224, and now maintains a studio at Milwaukee’s House of RAD.

Evelyn Patricia Terry

Evelyn Patricia Terry has worked as a full-time professional artist since earning her MFA in printmaking from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1985, following BFA and MS degrees from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. Working across diverse media, her practice ranges from abstract imagery to figurative works exploring race, religion, relationships, and American social life. Terry has also curated exhibitions, lectured, written about art, and mentored emerging artists throughout her career. Her work is represented in approximately 500 public and private collections, including the Smithsonian, Milwaukee Art Museum, Wright Museum of Art, Cynthia Sears Artist Book Collection, Rhode Island School of Design, Duke University, and Swarthmore College. She received a 2026 Mary Nohl Fellowship.
