Meet the luminaries

John S. Heywood serves as Distinguished Professor of Economics at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee and for the last 27 years as the Director of the Graduate Program in Human Resources and Labor Relations. He teaches and studies the behavior and consequences of trade unions in both the United States and overseas. He has held appointments in the United Kingdom, Germany, Norway, China and Australia. His research evaluates the role of unions in providing job satisfaction, altering the composition of fringe benefits, supporting or objecting to performance pay, and influencing plant closures. Using data from many countries, he often focuses on contrasting and comparing these roles across cultures and economies.
