Black Art Matters Dinner Honoring Willie Cole

February 26, 2026

Join the Milwaukee Art Museum’s African American Art Alliance for an evening celebrating the work and impact of acclaimed artist Willie Cole, whose art—represented in the Museum’s collection—continues to shape contemporary art and affirm that Black Art Matters now more than ever. Best known for transforming everyday found objects into powerful works of art rooted in African imagery and cultural reference, Cole’s work invites reflection, dialogue, and connection.

Following the Artist Talk, enjoy an intimate three-course dinner with the artist at communal tables, as we break bread together in celebration of art and community, and Cole’s lasting contributions. The night also marks the reinstallation of Cole’s work in the galleries, hung alongside Together by past Alliance honoree and Milwaukee-based collage artist Della Wells, who will be in attendance.
