Haberman Local Luminaries brings together a set of cross-disciplinary Milwaukee voices to share ten-minute reflections on artworks in a feature photography exhibition. Join us to hear new perspectives from three notable figures as they reflect the works on view in the exhibition On Repeat: Serial Photography.

Meet the Luminaries

Mark Clements
Mark is an award-winning international theater director whose work has appeared in over 100 major theaters throughout Europe and the United States. He began his tenure as Milwaukee Rep’s Artistic Director during the 2010/11 Season by bringing musicals to the mainstage, which started a tradition that is now the highlight of every season. His Milwaukee Rep directing credits include Titanic The Musical, West Side Story, Antonio’s Song, One House Over, his own adaptation of the current A Christmas Carol, Five Presidents, The Glass Menagerie, Of Mice and Men, Othello, Death of a Salesman, The History of Invulnerability, End of the Rainbow, Clybourne Park, Bombshells, and more. He has been nominated for an Olivier Award and several UK Theatre Awards, and he has won three Barrymore Awards from his time at Walnut Street Theatre in Philadelphia. Mark is currently working with Ayad Akhtar on adapting his critically acclaimed novel American Dervish for the stage to make its world premiere at Milwaukee Rep in an upcoming season.

Samantha Danen
Samantha Danen is a professional Brewer at Third Space Brewing, and she is the first female craft brewer in Milwaukee. She is passionate about each aspect of the brewing process, from sourcing ingredients to enjoying the final product and everything in between. As the Wisconsin Chapter Leader of the Pink Boots Society, Samantha works to assist and encourage women in the fermentable beverage industry through education. Samantha’s mission is to serve as an inspiration for young girls and women, making it known that there is a place for them in a traditionally male-dominated field.

Alberto Maldonado
As the Director of the Roberto Hernández Center, Alberto Maldonado is the chief executive and administrative officer of the Center. His work encompasses overall management and planning, including personnel, budget administration, and program development and implementation. In addition, he leads the Chancellors Committee for Hispanic Student Initiatives (CCHSI), areas of engagement with the community, and implementation of commitments made by the Chancellor. At UW–Milwaukee, Alberto has championed pre-college initiatives, community outreach and partnership development, student engagement, multicultural recruitment, and retention. Additionally, he has held a leadership role in the Annual Bilingual Open House, the Undocumented Student Campus Task Force, and the RHC Emergency Fund. Alberto serves in several boards including CARMEN Schools, the Hispanic Professionals of Greater Milwaukee, and the Medical College of WI All of Us Initiative.

 

Haberman Local Luminaries takes place annually and honors the late F. William Haberman, former president of the Herzfeld Foundation.
