Lecture: Faith & Fortune: A Social Vision for Collecting Art

Thursday, August 8, 2013, 6:15 PM

Join William Hosley, co-curator of The History of the Layton Art Collection, as he shares how collections built by industrial-age Americans bear witness to the visionary ways art was used to foster worldliness and civic values. Hosley will share how Frederick Layton, Elizabeth Colt, and Robbins Battell, through their private philanthropy, modeled roles for art in public life that influenced twentieth-century art museums.

This lecture is part of the Museum's 125th anniversary celebrations.
