Photographer Jen Davis Speaks at the Museum October 30

Artist Jen Davis, featured in Unmasked & Anonymous: Shimon & Lindemann Consider Portraiture, delivers a talk on her photographic practice at 6:15 p.m. in Lubar Auditorium Thursday, October 30. The lecture is free with general admission and co-sponsored by the Milwaukee Art Museum’s Photography Council and the Coalition for Photographic Arts. Davis recently received her MFA in Photography from Yale University after receiving her BA in Photography from Columbia College Chicago. She is the recipient of numerous awards including an Illinois Art Council Artist Fellowship Award and two Albert P. Weisman Memorial Scholarships.

The artist uses her work to consider the connection between self-perception and what it means to be considered attractive by society. “I am evaluating my self-image, as an obese female in her 20s, dealing with ever-present pressures from the outside world. This process of self-exploration has helped to lay the foundation of finding my voice and recognizing my actions and insecurities.”

Unmasked & Anonymous: Shimon & Lindemann Consider Portraiture is on view at the Milwaukee Art Museum through November 30.
