Loan Request

Requesting a loan from the Collection

Thank you for your interest in our collection.

The Milwaukee Art Museum welcomes requests from institutions around the world. We carefully review every request, considering the scholarly merit of the project and how it advances research and interpretation of the object; conservation concerns and the object’s safety; obligations or restrictions on the work; and other relevant factors.

Process

Please submit loan requests at least one year in advance of the exhibition’s opening to loanrequests@mam.org. The request should include:

  • A formal letter to the attention of Marcelle Polednik, PhD, Donna and Donald Baumgartner Director
  • Exhibition title, dates, and venue(s)
  • Exhibition synopsis
  • Relevance of requested object(s) to the exhibition
  • Work(s) requested, including the accession number(s) (see Milwaukee Art Museum’s online database)
  • A completed American Association of Museums standard facility report, which must include satisfactory environmental readings for the same loan period from the previous year
  • A contact name, email address, and telephone number for the administration of the loan

You can expect a response to your request within three months.

The borrower is responsible for all charges relating to the loan including, but not limited to, crating, packing, shipping, insurance and courier charges, plus any special costs for preparation or conservation agreed to in advance.
