Contemporary artist James Nares (b. 1953) draws inspiration from New York City in his film and video work. A native of London who came to New York in 1974, Nares is preoccupied with movement, rhythm, and repetition. He describes his hypnotic high-definition video Street, which captures city street life in continuous slow motion, as “a love letter to my adopted home.” His Super 8 film Pendulum follows the arc of a concrete sphere as it swings in the deserted streets of Tribeca and celebrates the freedom of flight.
