{"id":4766,"date":"2017-12-06T16:15:32","date_gmt":"2017-12-06T22:15:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mam.org\/info\/pressroom\/?p=4766"},"modified":"2017-12-06T16:15:32","modified_gmt":"2017-12-06T22:15:32","slug":"jaime-hayon-technicolor-brings-vibrant-colors-and-whimsical-objects-to-the-museum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mam.org\/info\/pressroom\/2017\/12\/jaime-hayon-technicolor-brings-vibrant-colors-and-whimsical-objects-to-the-museum\/","title":{"rendered":"Jaime Hayon: Technicolor brings vibrant colors and whimsical objects to the Museum"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><em class=\"alignnone\">Jaime Hayon: Technicolor<\/em><\/strong><strong> brings vibrant colors <\/strong><strong>and whimsical objects to the Milwaukee Art Museum\u00a0<\/strong><\/h1>\n<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\"><\/h1>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>-This fun, family-friendly exhibition will include an interactive play piece-\u00a0<\/em><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Milwaukee, Wis. \u2013 December 6, 2017<\/strong> \u2013 The Milwaukee Art Museum is delighted to bring a broad collection of works by the Spanish artist-designer <strong>Jaime Hayon, from large tapestries to vibrant reimagined animals<\/strong>\u2014<strong>including a brand new collection of glass sculpture. <\/strong>His exuberance is on full display in this exhibition, which allows visitors to escape into his vibrant world that merges art, decoration and design. <em>Jaime Hayon: Technicolor <\/em>will be on view from<strong> December 8, 2017 to March 25, 2018<\/strong> in the Bradley Family Gallery.<\/p>\n<p>Exploring his dreams and the depths of his imagination to conceive of his whimsical objects, Hayon has emerged at the forefront of an energetic new wave in contemporary design in the past ten years.<\/p>\n<p>Hayon was born in Madrid in 1974.\u00a0After studying industrial design in Madrid and Paris, he joined Fabrica\u2014the Benetton-funded design and communication academy in Italy\u2014in 1997 where he directed the design department until 2003.\u00a0Hayon set up his own studio practice in the year 2000 and has dedicated himself fully to his personal projects from 2003 onward. Today he is considered one of the most acclaimed creators in the world.<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/mam.org\/info\/pressroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/2015.6-Hayon-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4768 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/mam.org\/info\/pressroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/2015.6-Hayon-1-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"2015.6 Hayon (1)\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mam.org\/info\/pressroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/2015.6-Hayon-1-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/mam.org\/info\/pressroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/2015.6-Hayon-1-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/mam.org\/info\/pressroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/2015.6-Hayon-1-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/mam.org\/info\/pressroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/2015.6-Hayon-1-250x250.jpg 250w, https:\/\/mam.org\/info\/pressroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/2015.6-Hayon-1.jpg 2000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/em>Hayon embraces his imagination and does not shy away from using different materials and exploring new mediums\u2014including sculpture, textiles, ceramics, furniture, playscapes and glass. The exhibition will feature sketches, drawings and maquettes of Hayon\u2019s work. Sketching is part of the artist-designer\u2019s daily routine. \u201cSketching is a progression of my mind, a way of connecting thoughts. It\u2019s a precious liberty with no limitations, only the edges of paper. Now we have technology, but without the freedom of sketching, there is no passion.\u201d Within his practice, Hayon also believes in the power of storytelling. He has said, \u201cThe story doesn\u2019t have to be based on reality; it can be a complete fantasy as long as people can recognize themselves in it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Highlights of the exhibition include Hayon\u2019s immersive installation <em>Technicolor<\/em>, commissioned by the High Museum of Art in Atlanta; the <em>Green Chicken<\/em> rocking chair (or \u201ccrazy dream object,\u201d according to Hayon); an interactive sculpture; and his new work <em>Afrikando, <\/em>a series of glass vessels the Milwaukee Art Museum commissioned for this exhibition. <em>Afrikando<\/em> is inspired by the aesthetics of primitivism as well as Hayon\u2019s playful visual vocabulary of bright colors, bulbous forms and geometric ornamentation seen in his other works.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am really excited to bring the exuberant work of Jaime Hayon to the Milwaukee community,\u201d said <strong>Monica Obniski, Demmer Curator of 20<sup>th<\/sup> and 21<sup>st<\/sup> Century Design<\/strong>.\u201cHis practice highlights a bright, playful, imaginary world that is positive and full of joy\u2014something that I believe we need a bit more of today, especially in our contemporary climate. Hayon has also designed a new work of art that will be debuted in the exhibition. The \u201cfamily\u201d\u2014according to Hayon\u2014of glass vessels called\u00a0<em>Afrikando,\u00a0<\/em>is a recent acquisition commissioned for the Milwaukee Art Museum, thanks to the generosity of local glass collectors.
