{"id":3757,"date":"2015-02-12T10:39:29","date_gmt":"2015-02-12T16:39:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mam.org\/info\/pressroom\/?p=3757"},"modified":"2015-02-23T09:56:09","modified_gmt":"2015-02-23T15:56:09","slug":"free-admission-february-21-and-22","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mam.org\/info\/pressroom\/2015\/02\/free-admission-february-21-and-22\/","title":{"rendered":"Free Milwaukee Art Museum Admission on February 21 and 22"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Free weekend of activities at Milwaukee Art Museum is February Gift to the Community<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>Greater Milwaukee Foundation\u2019s celebration of a century continues<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Milwaukee, Wis., Feb. 9, 2015<\/strong> \u2013 Continuing its year-long presentation of Gifts to the Community, the Greater Milwaukee Foundation invites everyone to a free weekend of unique experiences at the<br \/>\nMilwaukee Art Museum in February, featuring unlimited access to the new, special exhibition<br \/>\n<a title=\"Exhibition homepage\" href=\"http:\/\/mam.org\/inspiring-beauty\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Inspiring Beauty: 50 years of Ebony Fashion Fair<\/em><\/a>, which showcases over 80 ensembles from 60 of the world\u2019s most famous designers, representing 17 countries.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEbony Fashion Fair, and the pioneering work of Eunice Johnson as its director and producer, tore down barriers between high fashion and the broader community, particularly for African-American women,\u201d said Ellen Gilligan, president and CEO of the Greater Milwaukee Foundation. \u201cThe\u00a0Milwaukee Art Museum\u2019s importance in our region and this exhibition\u2019s significance in our history make this gift of access a truly wonderful opportunity to come together as a community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Admission to the Milwaukee Art Museum and <em>Inspiring Beauty: 50 Years of Ebony Fashion Fair<\/em> will be free to everyone on Saturday, Feb. 21, and Sunday, Feb. 22. The Museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. No reservations are required.<\/p>\n<p>While the main galleries of the Museum are undergoing renovations, a variety of special activities<br \/>\nwill be taking place throughout the Quadracci Pavilion and adjacent spaces:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Do-it-yourself fashion activities and crafts for all ages<br \/>\n\u2022 A fashion runway in Windhover Hall for guests to model their DIY creations<br \/>\n\u2022 Museum volunteers stationed throughout the Inspiring Beauty exhibition to provide<br \/>\ninformation and answer questions<br \/>\n\u2022 Opportunities to meet Camille Morgan, guest organizing curator for <em>Inspiring Beauty<\/em><br \/>\n\u2022 Screenings of Ebony Fashion Fair, runway shows and fashion-focused films in the Lubar<br \/>\nAuditorium<br \/>\n\u2022 Special programming for kids<br \/>\n\u2022 Showcase of student art from the Scholastic Art Awards-Wisconsin<br \/>\n\u2022 All guests will receive a voucher to return to the museum for half-price in 2016, following<br \/>\nthe reinstallation of the collection galleries.<\/p>\n<p>Donors of the Greater Milwaukee Foundation have a strong history of supporting the Milwaukee<br \/>\nArt Museum. In the last three decades, the Foundation and its donors have provided more than $10<br \/>\nmillion in grants to the Museum.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe generosity of the Greater Milwaukee Foundation and its community of donors has benefited<br \/>\nMilwaukee organizations for a century,\u201d said Daniel Keegan, director of the Milwaukee Art Museum.<br \/>\n\u201cTheir ongoing commitment to education, the arts, our neighborhoods and its citizens, has contributed greatly to Milwaukee\u2019s vitality and quality of life. We are deeply grateful for GMF\u2019s investment in this special, free access weekend to the Milwaukee Art Museum.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>February\u2019s Gift to the Community is the second this year offered in honor of the Greater Milwaukee<br \/>\nFoundation\u2019s centennial. These unique experiences showcase the people, places and opportunities that make greater Milwaukee special.
