The grant will help the Museum prepare for a major renovation and collection reinstallation, scheduled to begin in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Institute of Museum and Library Services, and the Museums for America program, support efforts such as ours to strengthen the Museum\u2019s ability to meet its mission and serve its public,\u201d said Daniel Keegan, director of the Milwaukee Art Museum. \u201cWithout this grant we would not be able to implement our goals of a new and invigorated collections reinstallation that protects and preserves the art, while meeting the needs of a twenty-first century audience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to the grant specifications, the Milwaukee Art Museum will improve and expand its central paintings vault. When completed, this project will double the storage capacity of the paintings vault and improve access to the Museum\u2019s collection for visitors, students, researchers, and staff. The installation of additional painting storage screens will improve accessibility to the collection during reinstallation and beyond, and reduce the risks to the collection from offsite travel and storage, as well as save hundreds of thousands of dollars in offsite storage costs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Museum is deeply grateful to IMLS for their generosity, and we look forward to putting this money to a worthwhile cause,\u201d said Keegan.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ABOUT IMLS<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Institute of Museum and Library Services is the primary source of federal support for the nation\u2019s 123,000 libraries and 17,500 museums.
