{"id":2218,"date":"2011-01-01T17:01:34","date_gmt":"2011-01-01T23:01:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mam.org\/info\/pressroom\/?p=2218"},"modified":"2011-01-03T10:45:33","modified_gmt":"2011-01-03T16:45:33","slug":"framing-a-decade","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mam.org\/info\/pressroom\/2011\/01\/framing-a-decade\/","title":{"rendered":"Framing a Decade now open"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Milwaukee Art Museum Frames a Decade with Newest Exhibition<\/h2>\n<p><em>Celebrates print and drawing acquisitions over the past ten years<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Milwaukee, Wis. \u2013 <\/strong>The Milwaukee Art Museum\u2019s newest exhibition, <a title=\"Framing a Decade: Acquisitions of Prints and Drawings\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mam.org\/exhibitions\/details\/framing-a-decade.php\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Framing a Decade: Acquisitions of Prints and Drawings, 2001\u20132011<\/em>,<\/a> highlights a selection of the nearly three thousand works new to the Museum\u2019s prints and drawings collection since 2001, when the Calatrava-designed Quadracci Pavilion opened to the public. The exhibition is on view in the Koss Gallery, and spans over four centuries of pictorial achievement in Europe and North America.<\/p>\n<p>Celebrating what has been accomplished in ten years,<em> Framing a Decade<\/em> showcases approximately sixty drawings, etchings, lithographs, and woodcuts that have come into the Museum\u2019s collection either to enrich areas of strength or to broaden the scope of its Collection. Old Masters through to artists working today are represented, including Callot, Rembrandt, Gauguin, Klimt, Nolde, Kirchner, Picasso, Schiele, Francis, LeWitt, Bruce, Frankenthaler, Nauman, and more.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis exhibition highlights the richness and breadth of some of the finest and rarest prints and drawings the Museum has acquired in the past decade,\u201d said Mary Weaver Chapin, associate curator of prints and drawings. \u201c<em>Framing a Decade<\/em> is an invigorating, visual experience of some of the world\u2019s most famous artists.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Framing a Decade<\/em> also honors the donors and Members who helped make these acquisitions possible. In the past ten years, the Museum has acquired major gifts from the Maurice and Esther Leah Ritz and the Warrington Colescott collections, and has received a recent donation of over 500 prints from the Sam Francis Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMany thanks go out to countless individuals and organizations for the works on view in this magnificent exhibition of prints and drawings,\u201d said Daniel Keegan, director of the Milwaukee Art Museum. \u201cThe entire Museum extends its gratitude to the generous gifts and bequests over the years that make exhibitions like this possible.
