Drawing on Shaker history, African American spiritual traditions, and Wilson\u2019s extensive research, POWER reimagines Shaker values, worship practices, and social ideals through dance, music, and voice.\u00a0Part lecture and part performance, this unique program explores the often-overlooked history of Black Shakers and the cultural intersections that shaped their communities. The result is a powerful experience at the crossroads of history, ritual, and contemporary choreography.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mam.org\/exhibitions\/the-shakers\/\"><em>The Shakers: A World in the Making<\/em><\/a> is\u00a0organized by the Milwaukee Art Museum, the Vitra Design Museum, the Institute of Contemporary Art Philadelphia, and the W\u00fcstenrot Foundation, in collaboration with Shaker Museum, Chatham, New York<\/p>\n<p>This drop-in experience is included with Museum admission. On Thursday nights from 4 to 8 p.m., admission is pay-what-you-wish at the door, while tickets purchased <a href=\"https:\/\/www.etix.com\/ticket\/e\/1014112\/museum-admission-milwaukee-milwaukee-art-museum-admissions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">online<\/a> in advance are full price. The Milwaukee Art Museum is grateful to its <a href=\"https:\/\/mam.org\/exhibitions\/the-shakers\/#support\">exhibition sponsors<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>About the artist<\/h4>\n<p>Reggie Wilson is the founder, executive and artistic director of Fist &amp; Heel Performance Group, which he established in 1989. Drawing on the cultures of Africans in the Americas and combining them with postmodern influences, Wilson creates what he calls \u201cpost-African\/Neo-HooDoo Modern dances.\u201d His work has been presented nationally and internationally at venues including the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Jacob\u2019s Pillow Dance Festival, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, and festivals throughout Africa and Europe.
