SUMMARY:Drop-In Tours: Honoring Native Voices in Art: Homelands: Mnë’nának\, Māēnāēwah\, Tešišik
DESCRIPTION:In this docent-led tour\, explore artworks by contemporary artists representing many tribal affiliations\, who are reshaping the narratives about American land and identity. Presented near historical Anglo-American paintings\, these works offer insight into Native perspectives on stereotypes\, beliefs\, and themes circulated by 19th-century artists. More importantly\, they depict Indigenous art\, culture\, and traditions in Wisconsin and beyond as they have always been: vibrant\, enduring\, and thriving. \nFeatured artworks include Landscape (1986) by celebrated Ojibwe artist George Morrison\, a monumental twelve-foot wood collage on a limited-time loan from Art Bridges\, and Feather Canoe (ca. 1993) by Ho-Chunk American and Wisconsin-native artist Truman Lowe. \nThis drop-in experience is included with Museum admission and is free for Members. Admission tickets are available at the door or online. \nFeatured artworks are subject to change due to conservation and Collection care.
