Virtual In Conversation: Ruthie Dibble and Tiffany Wade Momon
March 17, 2022, 5:15 pm–6:15 pm
VirtualFree to the PublicReservation Required
Join Ruthie Dibble, PhD, curator for the Chipstone Foundation, and Tiffany Wade Momon, PhD, assistant professor of history at Sewanee: The University of the South, as they discuss the exhibition Troubled Like the Restless Sea, on view now in the Museum’s Godfrey American Art Wing.
The exhibition explores the difficult status of luxury goods in early America, taking as its starting point a passage from Frederick Douglass’s autobiography My Bondage and My Freedom, in which he vividly describes how the “profusion of luxury” in plantation households purposefully obscured the ugly realities of slavery.
