SUMMARY:Drop-In Tours: Honoring Native Voices in Art: Homelands: Mnë’nának\, Māēnāēwah\, Tešišik
DESCRIPTION:In this docent-led tour\, explore artworks by contemporary artists representing many tribal affiliations\, who are reshaping the narratives about American land and identity. Presented near historical Anglo-American paintings\, these works offer insight into Native perspectives on stereotypes\, beliefs\, and themes circulated by 19th-century artists. More importantly\, they depict Indigenous art\, culture\, and traditions in Wisconsin and beyond as they have always been: vibrant\, enduring\, and thriving. \nFeatured artworks include Landscape (1986) by celebrated Ojibwe artist George Morrison\, a monumental twelve-foot wood collage on a limited-time loan from Art Bridges\, and Feather Canoe (ca. 1993) by Ho-Chunk American and Wisconsin-native artist Truman Lowe. \nThis drop-in experience is included with Museum admission and is free for Members. SUMMARY:Slow Art Saturday: “Beneath the Surface”
DESCRIPTION:Slow Art Saturday is an invitation to be present and experience art mindfully. During this one-hour program\, Amy Kirschke\, Barbara Brown Lee Chief Learning & Engagement Officer\, leads participants in an in-depth exploration of a single work of art in Beneath the Surface: Mining and American Photography\, encouraging reflection. \nThis drop-in experience is included with Museum admission and is free for Members. Admission tickets are available at the door or online. \nThis exhibition is organized by the National Gallery of Art in collaboration with the Milwaukee Art Museum and the Amon Carter Museum of American Art and is co-curated by Kristen Gaylord\, Herzfeld Curator of Photography and Media Arts at the Milwaukee Art Museum\, and Diane Waggoner\, acting head and curator of photographs at the National Gallery of Art. \nThe Milwaukee Art Museum is grateful to its exhibition sponsors.

Highlights of the tour include Sunny #4 (1971) by Alex Katz and The Horseman (Le Cavalier) (1966) by Marc Chagall. \nDrop-in tours invite you to explore the Museum through the perspectives of our knowledgeable docents\, with different themes highlighting the collection each season. SUMMARY:Drop-in Art Making: Mariposas
DESCRIPTION:Drop in to the Art Studio this fall to create a Mariposa together. Drawing inspiration from the Museum’s Quadracci Pavilion and Collection\, studio artist Isa Castro designed this project to highlight the beauty of migration\, connectedness and movement. Using paint and mixed-media supplies\, craft your own butterfly to welcome new beginnings and celebrate community. \nVisitors of all ages and abilities are welcome in the Art Studio.  Access to the studio is included with Museum admission\, which is free for kids 12 and under. Admission tickets are available at the door or online.
