SUMMARY:Gallery Talk\, Outdoor Walk\, and Performance
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an engaging talk\, walk\, and performance celebrating nature and inspired by Seeking Revelation: German Romantic Prints and Drawings\, 1770–1850. The experience features a gallery talk led by Timothy “Tim” Vargo\, Southeast Wisconsin Conservation Collaborative Coordinator with the Natural Resources Foundation of Wisconsin\, in the exhibition\, followed by a guided walk outdoors where Vargo will make connections between exhibition themes\, our local environment\, and trumpeter swans! We will end our experience at the Milwaukee premiere of Swans\, a free outdoor performance at the Veterans Park lagoon\, created by artist Jess Bass and composer Lia Kohl\, using the park’s swan pedal boats as a stage. The performance will feature wing sculptures and choreography\, as well as an octet of brass players performing from the boats. This portion of the afternoon is presented by Out There\, a Milwaukee-based experimental performance series curating strange sounds in unique spaces. \nThe experience is included with Museum admission and is free for Members. Admission tickets are available at the door or online. The Milwaukee Art Museum is grateful to its program sponsors.

SUMMARY:Artist Talk + Performance: “Reggie Wilson/Fist and Heel Performance Group: POWER”
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the explosive Milwaukee Art Museum’s debut of POWER\, the celebrated dance performance work by Reggie Wilson/Fist and Heel Performance Group. Drawing on Shaker history\, African American spiritual traditions\, and Wilson’s extensive research\, POWER reimagines Shaker values\, worship practices\, and social ideals through dance\, music\, and voice. Part lecture and part performance\, this unique program explores the often-overlooked history of Black Shakers and the cultural intersections that shaped their communities. The result is a powerful experience at the crossroads of history\, ritual\, and contemporary choreography. \nThe Shakers: A World in the Making is organized by the Milwaukee Art Museum\, the Vitra Design Museum\, the Institute of Contemporary Art Philadelphia\, and the Wüstenrot Foundation\, in collaboration with Shaker Museum\, Chatham\, New York \nThis drop-in experience is included with Museum admission. On Thursday nights from 4 to 8 p.m.\, admission is pay-what-you-wish at the door\, while tickets purchased online in advance are full price. The Milwaukee Art Museum is grateful to its exhibition sponsors. \n  \nAbout the artist\nReggie Wilson is the founder\, executive and artistic director of Fist & Heel Performance Group\, which he established in 1989. Drawing on the cultures of Africans in the Americas and combining them with postmodern influences\, Wilson creates what he calls “post-African/Neo-HooDoo Modern dances.” His work has been presented nationally and internationally at venues including the Brooklyn Academy of Music\, Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival\, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts\, and festivals throughout Africa and Europe. A graduate of New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts\, Wilson has lectured\, taught\, and led community projects across the United States\, Africa\, Europe\, and the Caribbean.
