DESCRIPTION:Join us for the explosive Milwaukee Art Museum’s debut of POWER\, the celebrated dance performance work by Reggie Wilson/Fist & Heel Performance Group. Drawing on Shaker history\, African American spiritual traditions\, and Wilson’s extensive research\, POWER reimagines Shaker values\, worship practices\, and social ideals through dance\, music\, and voice. Part lecture and part performance\, this unique program explores the often-overlooked history of Black Shakers and the cultural intersections that shaped their communities. The result is a powerful experience at the crossroads of history\, ritual\, and contemporary choreography. \nRSVP now → \nThe Shakers: A World in the Making is organized by the Milwaukee Art Museum\, the Vitra Design Museum\, the Institute of Contemporary Art Philadelphia\, and the Wüstenrot Foundation\, in collaboration with Shaker Museum\, Chatham\, New York \nThis drop-in experience is included with Museum admission. Join us for a special conversation between Michael Pink\, Artistic Director at Milwaukee Ballet\, and Dr. Kantara Souffrant\, Senior Director of Community Dialogue and Adult Programs at the Milwaukee Art Museum\, to discuss the creative process behind MKE MIX: Art Moves and explore how works from the Museum’s collection were transformed into original choreography. \nMKE MIX: Art Moves translates paintings\, sculptures\, and design into dance\, creating a dynamic dialogue between visual art and movement. \nThe celebration continues January 22–31 with the performances\, featuring three original dance works. Together\, the conversation and performances offer a unique opportunity to experience this collaboration from conception to action.
