Composer Carl Orff once wrote, “tell me, I forget; show me, I remember; involve me, I understand.” By creating opportunities for community involvement at the Milwaukee Art Museum, sponsors encourage a deeper understanding and appreciation of art.
Exhibition sponsors participate in the development and presentation of the finest cultural programming. Each year the Museum organizes approximately 16 exhibitions exploring a wide range of media, periods, and styles. The schedule includes shows organized by the Milwaukee Art Museum as well as those on loan from other major cultural institutions. Feature exhibitions are displayed in the Baker/Rowland Galleries of the Quadracci Pavilion; smaller exhibitions are shown in the Collection galleries.
Education is crucial to encouraging a love of art. Viewing artwork is enjoyable, but visitors to the Museum have a richer experience when they understand context: how was a piece of art created? Why? Museum programs challenge viewers to witness the world from different perspectives, to learn about cultural history, and to express themselves in creative ways. Sponsors make possible these learning opportunities that stretch the minds, hearts, and souls of people of all ages.
Thanks to program sponsors, the Museum is a resource for the entire Milwaukee community. It provides neighborhood-based art programming throughout the region, partnering with other institutions such as Milwaukee Public Schools, Milwaukee Public Library, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and YMCA. Collaborative outreach efforts reach different populations in the community, making Museum programs available to children who would otherwise be unable to attend.
Many unique events are held at the Milwaukee Art Museum each year. Sponsors fund one-time events, annual events such as the President's Circle Party, and ongoing series such as Art After 5, Family Sundays, and Senior Days.
