{"id":2115,"date":"2010-11-01T17:20:05","date_gmt":"2010-11-01T23:20:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mam.org\/info\/pressroom\/?p=2115"},"modified":"2010-11-17T11:24:10","modified_gmt":"2010-11-17T17:24:10","slug":"milwaukee-art-museum-launches-first-ever-art-of-the-table-weekend","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/mam.org\/info\/pressroom\/2010\/11\/milwaukee-art-museum-launches-first-ever-art-of-the-table-weekend\/","title":{"rendered":"Schedule of Events for Art of the Table Weekend November 18-21"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><em>Art of the Table<\/em> happening this weekend at the Milwaukee Art Museum<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p><strong>Milwaukee, Wis.<\/strong> \u2013 The Milwaukee Art Museum is premiering <em>Art of the Table<\/em>, a four-day event that presents the unique tabletop installations of twenty-two area artists and designers, inspired by the art in the Museum\u2019s galleries. A lecture by design impresario and vibrant personality Alberto Alessi is among the slate of program offerings. The event runs Thursday, November 18, through Sunday, November 21, and is included with Museum admission.<\/p>\n<p><em>Art of the Table<\/em> is a tribute to art and installation design, and the perfect complement to the feature exhibition <em><a title=\"European Design\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mam.org\/european-design\" target=\"_blank\">European Design Since 1985: Shaping the New Century<\/a><\/em>, which is on view through January 9, 2011. Twenty-two area artists and designers were each challenged to create a non-traditional tabletop installation for specific galleries throughout the Museum. Participants include local artists Ray Chi, Della Wells, JoAnna Poehlmann, Tim Garland and more, plus national retailers Anthropologie, Williams Sonoma, Design Within Reach, and Crate &amp; Barrel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Art of the Table<\/em> was inspired by the wealth of beautiful objects the Museum has in its Collection, as well as the overwhelming success of our spring event, <em>Art in Bloom<\/em>,\u201d said Fran Serlin, director of public programs at the Museum. \u201cWe hope that this will be the first annual <em>Art of the Table<\/em> event.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kicking off the festivities is a 6:15 p.m. lecture on November 18 by Italian design master Alberto Alessi, President of Alessi and CEO\/Marketing Strategies and Design Management. Alessi will share the story of his family\u2019s company and the progressive role it has played in bringing creative and functional design to the world market. The lecture is open to the public and overflow seating is available.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, November 19, <a title=\"MAM After Dark\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mam.org\/afterdark\" target=\"_blank\">MAM After Dark: Under the Table <\/a>will pay homage to both <em>Art of the Table<\/em> and <em><a title=\"Under the Table\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mam.org\/exhibitions\/details\/robert-therrien.php\" target=\"_blank\">Under the Table<\/a><\/em>, an impressively large On Site installation by Robert Therrien, located in the heart of Windhover Hall.
