Press contacts: Vicki Scharfberg Milwaukee Art Museum extends Colescott exhibition<\/strong> Milwaukee, Wis. \u2013 Sept. 7, 2010<\/strong> \u2013 Due to popular demand, the highly-successful exhibition Warrington Colescott: Cabaret, Comedy & Satire<\/em> has been extended through Sunday, October 3, in the Museum\u2019s Contemporary Galleries.<\/p>\n Warrington Colescott: Cabaret, Comedy & Satire<\/em> chronicles Colescott\u2019s raucous printmaking journey, during which he trained his piercing eye on the fashions and foibles of human behavior. The artist targets scientists, Greek gods, print collectors, tofu lunches, academics, the afterlife, presidents, joggers, famous printmakers, and showgirls, to name but a few, in prints riddled with complexities and contradictions, stinging satirical barbs and playful jokes, and exuberant color and subtle tonal variations. This retrospective exhibition honors the celebrated artist and features more than one hundred prints from his sixty-year career.<\/p>\n \u201cThis exhibition is captivating, engaging and fun,\u201d said Mary Weaver Chapin, associate curator of prints and drawings, Milwaukee Art Museum. \u201cColescott accentuates the bawdy, the bright, and the beguiling aspects of human behavior.\u201d<\/p>\n Colescott taught at the University of Wisconsin\u2013Madison for nearly forty years and continues to produce new prints in his studio in Hollandale, Wisconsin, where he lives with his wife Francis Myers.<\/p>\n \u201cColescott has played a major role in the print Renaissance in the United States,\u201d said Chapin. \u201cAt the heart of Colescott\u2019s enterprise is a deep love of satire, farce, and the burlesque. \n<\/strong>The Museum is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Thursdays until 8 p.m. Admission is $12 for adults and $10 for students, seniors and active military, and is free for members and children 12 and under.<\/p>\n
\n<\/strong>The Milwaukee Art Museum\u2019s far-reaching holdings include more than 20,000 works spanning antiquity to the present day.
