Lecture: Photography: Leo Rubinfien Discusses Garry Winogrand

Thursday, October 17, 2013, 6:15 PM-8 PM

Join photographer and curator Leo Rubinfien for a discussion of Garry Winogrand, a major touring exhibition on one of the greatest photographers of the twentieth century. Known for his humor and visual energy, Winogrand (1928–1984) did much of his best-known work in the streets of New York City in the 1960s, before setting out across the country, capturing a nation that was rich with possibility yet threatening to spin out of control. A major voice of his era, Winogrand photographed everything from airports to zoos, antiwar protesters to politicians. Rubinfien's exhibition reframes a career that was cut short by Winogrand's early death at age fifty-six. This is a rare chance to hear the curator discuss archival discoveries in the making of the exhibition, and to see celebrated, iconic pictures.
