Hear from Nina Chanel Abney, one of the artists represented in the 30 Americans exhibition, as she discusses her brightly colored canvases. Abney's figures often have a cartoon-like appearance and appear to be in various stages of transformation. She tackles complex issues such as race and gender through a combination of autobiography, pop reference, and storytelling.
A native of Chicago, Abney now lives in New York City. Her work can be found in several collections, including the Brooklyn Museum; the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, DC; the Rubell Family Collection; and the Burger Collection.
