Lecture: 30 Americans Artist Nina Chanel Abney

Thursday, August 1, 2013, 6:15 PM

Hear from Nina Chanel Abney, one of the artists represented in the 30 Americans exhibition, as she discusses her brightly colored canvases. Abney's figures often have a cartoon-like appearance and appear to be in various stages of transformation. She tackles complex issues such as race and gender through a combination of autobiography, pop reference, and storytelling.

A native of Chicago, Abney now lives in New York City. Her work can be found in several collections, including the Brooklyn Museum; the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, DC; the Rubell Family Collection; and the Burger Collection.

Following the lecture, Abney will be available to sign the 30 Americans catalogue and the sweatshirt she designed for the Museum Store to accompany the exhibition.
