See James Tissot’s London Visitors—in the Layton Collection at the Museum—within the broader context of Victorian London’s pleasures and dangers. Join Nancy Rose Marshall, associate professor of art history at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, as she discusses the first great metropolis and how artists such as Tissot addressed the full range of modern London, from the majestic decorum of royal pageantry to the horror of Jack the Ripper. A book signing will follow; Marshall's related book, City of Gold and Mud is available from the Museum Store.
