Take in this opening day exhibition talk with curator Mary Weaver Chapin for an introduction to the posters that defined Belle Époque Paris. Get to know artists hailed as masters of the medium: Jules Chéret, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Pierre Bonnard, and Alphonse Mucha, and others.
Posters of Paris: Toulouse-Lautrec and His Contemporaries features more than one hundred of the finest French posters from the golden age of the affiche artistique, including posters originally banned by the censors and rare preparatory studies. These larger-than-life, brightly hued artistic posters with bold typography and playful imagery covered the boulevards, advertising bicycles to the debaucherous cancan.
