Join other book enthusiasts for a lively discussion of Persuasion by Jane Austen at the Milwaukee Art Museum! This book is being read in conjunction with the exhibition Intimate Images of Love and Loss: Portrait Miniatures.
Jane Austen once compared her writing to painting “on a little bit of ivory, 2 inches square”. In her last completed novel, the author places Anne Elliot, a lone woman of integrity, reason and emotion, against the backdrop of a cruel and hypocritical Regency England. Much like the portrait miniature Austen positions in her story, Anne’s journey is defined by love and loss as she negotiates the tremendous social pressures of her time.
