The studio is the place to engage in ever-changing hands-on art projects and create something all your own to take home. Each month features a different theme; find your inspiration from the artworks in the Museum’s Collection and special exhibitions!
The Studio is now open every day the Museum is open, so feel free to drop in for a few minutes or spend the day at the Milwaukee Art Museum!
Each month our programs take on a new theme. Here is a quick list to get you inspired about the months ahead!
November: Painted Stories
Travel through the painted narratives of the feature exhibition Of Heaven and Earth: 500 Years of Italian Painting, and learn how to tell a story with your artwork. Have fun painting layered landscapes, and then add characters to them like the eighteenth-century painter Paolo Anesi. Learn how to draw parts of the face and to invent characters with dramatic personality!
December: Near and Dear
Family is the focus this month—for the holidays! Check out the many paintings of people in Of Heaven and Earth: 500 Years of Italian Painting, and make a family portrait—perfect to give as a holiday gift. Look to the interiors of Renaissance master Sandro Botticelli to learn linear perspective, and use color and light tricks like atmospheric masters Salvator Rosa and Luigi Garzi to make your paintings pop!
