Kohl’s Art Generation Open Studio

TUESDAY–SUNDAY, 10 AM–4 PM
THURSDAYS, 10 AM–7 PM

Special Hours:
Memorial Day–Labor Day: Open MONDAY, 10 AM–4 PM

Stop by the studio to create art inspired by artwork in the Museum. A different collection or exhibition is featured each month, and the activities are always changing!

August: In Three Dimensions

All month long, make art in the round! Create sculptures from a variety of materials as you consider balance, space, and surface. Use additive and subtractive methods with clay, and then practice your cutting and construction skills in metal. Study the work of artists Martin Puryear and Kiki Smith in the Museum’s Collection for inspiration. We’ll learn about process through the work of Eva Hesse, and then design a maquette for an awe-inspiring installation.

September: Playing with Pattern

This month, step back in time to explore the possibilities of pattern. Learn about Classical patterns while you make a mummy sarcophagus or a Greek-inspired plate. And, see how the use of patterns in art has changed from early times to the present day. Free for Members. Free with Museum admission
